Yams and Sweet Potato in pet food

I have never understood the addition of yams and sweet potatoes unless the manufacturers are getting them practically for nothing. when I call holistic pet food companies they tell me their preaprations, and this is raw or cooked, are designed to duplicate food in the wild, what is natural for a canine for example and when I say why yams? they say well they need carbohydrates. But yams and sweet potatoes are sugar. i cant eat them because I have pre diabetic condition, they are like eating candy… Continue

Chicken Soup for Cat Lovers

The Chicken Soup for Cat Lovers was highly recommend to me, but when I realized it was made by Diamond I wondered if it was safe in light of the recent recalls involving Diamond.

I have been feeding The Chicken Soup for Cat Lovers (canned) to my 3 cats. Two of the cats are fine but one is having trouble breathing. chicken soup/ethoxyquin dog food

After reading a review from 'dogfoodanalysis' stating the use of fish meal with ethoxyquin was no longer used by Diamond Pet Foods. I started using the Chicken Soup for Pet Lovers Soul brand. But after reading the report about ethoxyquin on TAPF , I contacted them myself and sure enough they told me the fish meal does have ethoxyquin, but supposedly at 2ppm or less. She also stated that at least they are being honest and that there are not any sources of natually preser… Continue

Wellness answers my email about ethoxyquin

I asked Wellness about ethoxyquin, this is the response I received (today)

Dear Mary lou,

Thank you for taking the time to write about Wellness® Fish & Sweet Potato.

Our pet food products are 100% ethoxyquin free. Our fish meal supplier has obtained the necessary permit to utilize a natural antioxidant made from blended mixed tocopherols in place of ethoxyquin to preserve the fish meal during transit.

carrageenan, a neurotoxin

I was looking at the list of ingredients in several of the pet foods and saw carrageenan, which is a neurotoxin. I am wondering why so many of the pet food manufacturers use this ingredient. Anyone have a thought?
